For the first thirty three years of his career, Ernst worked in various executive, operational and managerial roles for Shell and BG Group in the North Sea, Middle East, Far East, and Gulf of Mexico. His experience covers both onshore and offshore operations, and he possesses deep expertise in managing technical risk, operations, process safety, change management and leadership.
He developed the global direction and standard for Asset Integrity /Process Safety Management in Shell across all sectors, following BP's Texas City incident in 2005.
His last line-leadership role was Managing Director of BG Group Upstream Europe where he initiated the BG Group Late-Life Asset Management Model that was successfully implement on BG Group Operated Assets in the North Sea and later served as a model for the Shell Group.
He holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
